Spanish student visa

Mexican passport holder, Canadian PR, apply from Canada at the Spanish consulate for her province (prove residence). Do not fly in on a short stay and switch.

  1. Admission letter + at least partial tuition paid
  2. Email consulate for appointment (Toronto: cog.toronto.visnac@maec.es — subject FIRSTNAME;LASTNAME;STUDY VISA APPOINTMENT)
  3. RCMP criminal record (apostille + Spanish translation) — start early; max 6 months old at appointment
  4. Medical certificate (apostilled + translated)
  5. Spanish health insurance (no deductible, ≥€30k)
  6. Proof of funds ≥ €600/mo (IPREM) for stay length; prepaid housing deducted
  7. Apply ≥ 60 days before travel; collect visa within 2 months of decision
  8. After arrival: TIE within 1 month if stay > 6 months
Work while studying: Spain allows up to 30 hrs/week for higher-ed students (confirm IE private-degree masters qualify). Canadian PR: bank 730 days / 5 years — 10 months abroad is lower risk than a 2-year Aus program.
